A psychoeducational assessment involves more than just the hours spent in one-to-one testing. It is a comprehensive process that includes reviewing cumulative information, interviews with family and school personnel, scoring and interpreting data, developing meaningful evidence-based recommendations, and a detailed psychological report. In all, a typical assessment involves 20 or more hours of work.
The fee for a psychoeducational assessment is $3375, and is typically paid in four installments (i.e., at the time of intake, at the time of testing, at the time of feedback, and when the final report is released).
Counseling and support services are billed at $225 per 50-minute session**
Private psychology services are not covered by Nova Scotia’s Medical Services Insurance (MSI). A portion of psychologists’ fees may be covered by private insurance plans (e.g., Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, etc.). If coverage is available, clients can submit receipts for services to their private insurer for reimbursement.
Please note that direct billing is NOT available. When payment is received, clients will be provided a detailed receipt to submit to their insurance company.
It is important to note that Smith-Burke Psychology is not responsible for denied insurance claims. We strongly recommend that you contact your insurance company to verify the details of your coverage before booking an appointment with us. Some important questions to ask your provider include:
** These questions are particularly important if you are booking a psychoeducational assessment. While some insurance plans provide a lump sum of coverage that allows for multi-hour testing sessions, other plans restrict coverage to one hour per visit. Furthermore, while some plans cover report writing, others do not.
Payment is due on the date of service and can be made using a credit card or via e-transfer to admin@smithburkepsychology.ca. Once payment has been received, you will be provided with a receipt that can be submitted to private insurers for reimbursement, and/or claimed as a medical expense.
We require a minimum of 24 hours notice for cancellation of counseling/therapy appointments and 48 hours for psychoeducational testing appointments. Except in exceptional circumstances (i.e., snowstorms, sudden illness), clients will be billed for sessions missed without appropriate notice.
